Week 4 - October 24th to 30th, 2006

Again, not much happened during the week, including our appliance pick up.

I contacted the City on Thursday and was told that I had too many items on the pick up list.

When I explained that I was not told that and what would he suggest I do to remove the other items, I was routed to the supervisor's voice mail box. I left a message.

She called back to tell me that she could not tell me anything and would call back. On Friday, we spoke and she gave me some reasons why the appliances weren't picked up such as a) they were too far from the curb, b) they were lined up deep down the lawn instead of across c) the truck and pick up people could not maneuver close enough to hoist the appliance up safely. These are all good reasons (note, the number of appliances was never an issue), however none of the above applied particularly.

I could not see how we could have put the appliances any differently without endangering pedestrians or parked vehicles. In fact, I ended up emailing her some photos because she was explaining that a supervisor would need to go by and look at it and etc., etc.

Friday evening we popped over to ch for a bit of artistry (ha ha). No demo this time, however we did make some tombstones out of drywall to use for Halloween. Tell me the crack house, with boarded up windows and a sagging porch is not the perfect house for Halloween?!

I noticed that there were 2 rifle bags sitting on the floor and would have been under the main floor stove. Rifle bags! They were contorted in such a way that it was apparent they did not contain rifles... and I must admit, the surprise factor is wearing off a little the more odd things we find.  I forgot to get a picture but I will soon.

Anyway, that was the extent of our Friday night. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Andreas parents were visiting with us again, so we abused the opportunity to use their mini-van. Andreas and Klaus took at load of drywall to the dump - free to dump because it is recyclable. Just don't put it out for collection on recycle day!

That left a nice big area in the front room, for us to pile more debris of course.

The weekend was busy with in-laws, friends visiting from Ottawa: Andy and Jen- yes, we gave them a tour  and found that a wee mouse must have made a home behind the upstairs kitchen stove.

Dixie Chicks concert on Sunday night was awesome!

Monday, I asked the City again as to what was happening with the appliances.  With Halloween coming up, I didn't really want all the kids having to walk around them!  Plus, I was not really looking forward to hauling them into the backyard temporarily. Well, the City came through!  Although the lady I spoke to explained that she had not yet been able to talk to the supervisor, and that she would have to send him by the house on Tuesday, Andreas discovered Monday night they had all been picked up!  only 6 days late....  However, we suspect, from hint around, that one of our Neighbours may have influenced the pickup so I say thanks!

Monday night I carved 3 pumpkins for the crack house Halloween and got a bunch of other stuff together - can't wait to decorate!

The story of how we bought the crack house

Common references in my scrapbook:

Andreas:  god love him for putting up with me and my big ideas

Me: the other half of the loony toones who decided to buy the house.

dodgy:  means sketchy, bad, worse, 'imagine that' and 'can you believe it?'

ch: crackhouse

front room:  main floor a.k.a living room

middle room:  main floor a.k.a dining room and Command Central

stolen goods room:  this is at the front of the house in the basement - the police told us that is where the previous tenants stored their stuff
