Week 32  May 8 - 15th, 2007

Woah, where does the time fly!

I don't even know where to begin, I've been a bit lax with the updated website entries so I will have to refer back to the pictures to remember what we've done in the last few months.

I'm getting a LOT of harassing on not being up to date so I've started writing random events in a blog for all of the things we are doing as it is quick and easy to update..

After this week, all news and updates will be on the blog

This week was very busy!  After last week's all-day skylight installation and all-day chimney removal, this week we put a deposit down for the roofers to come; the spray foam insulation was quoted, compared, ordered and 'installed' all in about 4 days.  Andreas can really organize when he puts his mind to it!

We are usually at the house 2 or 3 nights plus the weekends nowadays.  It makes for tired days but I don't mind.

This week we had to fill in the roof vent that we no longer need, take out the old secondary vent stack and patch the hole as well as patch misc. holes in preparation for the spray foam installers.  That was on Tuesday.

Wednesday we made the first of several trips to buy 2x8's for the weekend joist sistering.  We can only fit 3 10" lengths at a time in the car and we needed 6 to 8 of them.  We also continued prep work and I kept taking down the chimney.  We also made a trip to the dump with the ever-recyclable and never-ending pile of drywall.

After that, Friday, Andreas 'supervised' the spray foam installation as he also prepared the basement joists for sistering.   It required a lot of electrical work moved out of the way and a new light wired so we could see what we were doing.   I came earlier than usual, about 3:30pm so we went to the 'Depot for misc. supplies and some more 2x8's.

We used some some vapour barrier and a smidge of drywall over some plumbing to insulate it for the next layer of plumbing/ducting.

Saturday we discovered RONA was having a 10% off everything sale so we took full advantage; we bought electrical wire, miscellaneous electrical parts and 2 pieces of 2x8"x8'.

Gene the Plumber called about 11:30am wondering if we were going to show up.  Gene's funny, he's pretty old school - he calls my cel phone and asks if Andreas is available.  He will gladly talk to me, but will always repeat everything to Andreas - or every second sentence to me is 'now you may want to discuss this with Andreas..."  He's a super nice man and he's very helpful and is also advising us on fitting in plumbing & ducting without huge bulkheads.

We hurry out of RONA to see Gene, have a discussion about what's next for the plumbing and by that time it's just after 1:00pm.  There is an open house down the street that we wanted to check out.  After that, not in any mood to get dirty, I suggest going hunting for a tub as Gene needs it soon.

Well, that was the next 8 hours of my life that I will never get back, and still NO TUB!

Sunday was Joist Sistering Day (after another trip to RONA and the 10% off sale!) and our friend Ash kindly came by to assist.  Well, more like we assisted him but in the end it looks good, is sturdy and safe and the basement stairs are wider!  Yay.

Monday somehow we ended up in RONA again and then spent about an hour at the house discussing ducting.

The story of how we bought the crack house

Common references in my scrapbook:

Andreas:  god love him for putting up with me and my big ideas

Me: the other half of the loony toones who decided to buy the house.

dodgy:  means sketchy, bad, worse, 'imagine that' and 'can you believe it?'

ch: crackhouse

front room:  main floor a.k.a living room

middle room:  main floor a.k.a dining room and Command Central

stolen goods room:  this is at the front of the house in the basement - the police told us that is where the previous tenants stored their stuff
