About

This is the site to keep everyone posted on the Crack House.

Before you ask, yes it was a crack house.

Now it's a project.

A friend sent us the MLS listing because she thought it was funny.

In the details, well, there actually were no details, but it did mention "Alleged Crack House".  We thought it was funny too.

Then we bought it.

Possession date was October 3rd, 2006.  Within a few hours we had christened the house with wine, cheese, take-out Indian food and a few good friends.

Read the on-going saga of destruction and construction.

As the weather cools

Friday 19 October 2007 at 12:19 pm

Well, it has been getting chillier...being the middle of October and all. Some things you just do without until you need them, however it has been becoming apparent that we will need heat in the near future. To that end, one evening this week Andreas wired up the furnace and then the next morning (while it was actually light out) he hooked it into the main panel. We have not yet turned it on, we need a visit from the furnace guy to ok it. Also, there is a digital thermostat *somewhere* in the house that still has not turned up. Oh yes, and we may need to put ducts in too...

The random piles of tools, constsruction materials and boxes are irritating, but you just get on with things. This week, however, while searching for that elusive thermostat, I decided enough was enough. 4 large boxes went back into storage, and I have a plans for organizing the tools and construction crap. Thinking it would be cold and raining this weekend, it seemed and ideal opportunity to clean up the main dining & living room. Alas, the weather has turned downright balmy (but grey) so outdoor projects it is!

Speaking of the outdoors, the landscaping quotes came back, we've narrowed it down and expect them to start the week after next. Curb appeal, here we come!

More PORCH

Monday 15 October 2007 at 9:20 pm

Seems like this porch is taking forever! We needed to get it done before the cold weather...no painting when it's less than 10 C !!

So, every spare weekend minute has been trying to get all the fiddly bits done so that we can paint...although it won't be completely put together, at least the parts will be painted. I did get a primer coat on a couple of weeks ago, then it was thanksgiving ...then the weather was crappy...but in the end Sunday was a paint-all-day event (Lianne mostly) and there is now a first coat on, of the final colours (not including the front door!)

Putting on the primer (Sept 30th)

Trimming out the columns

Still painting

Now here's something...(even all the pickets lined up have their first coat of final colour!)

(it looks washed out, but everything is ivory to match the windows & metal work)

My bad - catchup page

Monday 15 October 2007 at 8:59 pm

Ok, so I was just noticing that for all intents and purposes, I was not as up to date as I thought!

Here are a few activites from September.

Sept 15th: Sarah & Al help pick up a vanity for the upstairs bath (no, it is still not installed yet!)

We got the eaves troughing and metal work done all around the outside of the house - WHAT a difference!

Thanksgiving at Crackhouse

Monday 15 October 2007 at 10:36 am

Andreas' parents flew back from a trip to Germany, and stayed 2 nights in our less-than-stellar accomodations. Since they missed all the turkey, I decided to whip up a quick turkey meal in their honour. Delish, despite the surroundings!

Happy Anniversary - 1 year

Wednesday 03 October 2007 at 2:19 pm

Believe it or not...today is the anniversary of when we took possession of the crack house! Wine and Indian food on the front porch...neighbours checking us out...giving tours of the disgusting place...ah the memories!
