This is the site to keep everyone posted on the Crack House.

Before you ask, yes it was a crack house.

Now it's a project.

A friend sent us the MLS listing because she thought it was funny.

In the details, well, there actually were no details, but it did mention "Alleged Crack House".  We thought it was funny too.

Then we bought it.

Possession date was October 3rd, 2006.  Within a few hours we had christened the house with wine, cheese, take-out Indian food and a few good friends.

Read the on-going saga of destruction and construction.

We're building a deck!

Tuesday 03 June 2008 at 12:00 am

Here is the pictures from the deck we had planned from the beginning.  It's morphed a bit from our original 12 month old drawings but still I think it's turning out very nicely.  A work in progress...

Leveling out the ceiling

Monday 26 May 2008 at 03:22 am

Lewis is leaving for a bit but before he went he spent the week strapping out the whole main floor ceiling in preparation for drywall.

It is, after all some 100+ years old and not as even as you would like.  Laser level was very handy for this job - the ceiling varied from 1/2 inch to 2 inches out.

Next up - Living/Dining Subfloor

Saturday 24 May 2008 at 6:14 pm

We're just rolling now...to get us started, Erin is there with her drill talents.

Because we live here, we keep working in small areas, shifting our stuff around...it's not fun but it gets the job done!

Then there is the problem of where do you cut your 4' x 8' sheets of underlay?

Middle bedroom gets subfloor & drywall

Monday 19 May 2008 at 1:06 pm

We had drywall already up in the front and back bedrooms and then we moved the office to the back. That left the middle room practically empty. First we started with the subfloor

Here's Lianne, ready to work...

Then we continued on with drywall, actually here is Lewis working but Andreas was helping, really. Then Jordan (the Destroyer) stopped in to help manouever the long pieces in!

Flashy new siding & window for the back room

Thursday 15 May 2008 at 6:00 pm

It was white, and now it is white again, only cleaner and neater and with all of the windows/doors rearranged.

The "back rooom" as we call it.

Of course, it would look nicer without the big pile of wood and siding remnants!

Also, around the side of the house there was this boarded up window that overlooked the 'cellar stairs'. The stairs come out of the basement and used to be a separate entrance through the back room. We suspect they were original to the house and were enclosed when the back room was built. We found some glass block & Lewis artfully reframed them to the exact dimension. Now it lets light in, so much better!

HOLY COW - NEW STAIRS

Thursday 08 May 2008 at 7:11 pm

While we were away...old stairs gone, new (temporary) stairs were installed! This time we both jumped for joy and ran up and down the stairs. The difference between these new ones and the old ones is amazing (never mind the 'to code' part of it). Now we can actually walk down with out fear of falling, and walk up without feeling like we are mountain climbing!

Old Scary Stairs...

New Fabulous (temporary) stairs...

This is the start of our 'design' and the hard long slog starting to come into fruition :

Drywall, drywall, (almost) everywhere!

Friday 18 April 2008 at 7:04 pm

The hanging of the drywall is progressing nicely on the second floor.  Lewis had dedicated at lot of time to it lately, especially since we are having house guests next week.   Who on earth would stay here, I know...but Andreas' parents are coming to town for a week as Andreas and I are getting married on the 26th!

The bathroom...
